Register now for McHenry County Jewish Congregation school

The McHenry County Jewish Congregation is now accepting registrations for its Religious School, which meets Wednesdays from 4:30 to 6 p.m. and Sundays from 9 a.m. to noon beginning Sunday, Sept. 7.

Twice-a-week instruction is offered to students in second to seventh grade. Sunday-only instruction is offered for kindergarten to first-grade classes and those in eighth grade through high school. An adult Hebrew class will be offered Wednesdays from 5 to 6 p.m. starting Sept. 10.

Religious School Opening Day is Sunday, Sept. 7, beginning with a registration period at 8:30 a.m. The morning also will feature an orientation for parents and students and a membership-wide picnic. The picnic, which begins at 11 a.m., will serve as an open house for those interested in learning more about the school and the synagogue.

There is no charge for the picnic, and all are welcome. Call (815) 455-1810 for more information on enrollment.

MCJC's observance of the High Holidays will begin at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 24, with Erev Rosh Hashana services, followed the next two days by services that begin at 9 a.m.

Yom Kippur will be observed with a Kol Nidre service Friday, Oct. 3, beginning at 6:15 p.m., with the observance continuing the next day with services at 9 a.m. and 4:15 p.m. and a Break-the-Fast meal at 7:45 p.m. Children's services will be offered at approximately 10:15 a.m. Sept. 25 for Rosh Hashana and again on Yom Kippur Oct. 4.

McHenry County Jewish Congregation holds Shabbat services at 6:30 p.m. Fridays and 9:30 a.m. Saturdays. Services are led by Rabbi Maralee Gordon.

McHenry County Jewish Congregation is a community synagogue that serves Jews of all backgrounds. Interfaith families are welcome. It also operates a gift shop offering a range of Judaica items. It is on Ridgefield Road in unincorporated Crystal Lake, accessible from Route 14.
