'Little House' star Melissa Gilbert coming to Naperville

Television personality Melissa Gilbert, child star of "Little House on the Prairie" and former Screen Actors Guild president, will visit Naperville next month to discuss her new book, "My Prairie Cookbook: Memories and Frontier Food from My Little House to Yours."

Gilbert's appearance is scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 18, at North Central College's Wentz Concert Hall, 171 E. Chicago Ave. Tickets are available at Anderson's Bookshop, 123 W. Jefferson Ave., Naperville, or online at andersonsbookshop.com.

In her book, Gilbert offers fans comforting family recipes and childhood favorites, from prairie breakfasts and picnic lunches to treats inspired by Nellie's restaurant.

Her personal recollections and memorabilia - including behind-the-scenes stories, anecdotes and more than 75 scrapbook images - accompany the recipes. The book also answers the most-asked questions from fans on topics including the biggest bloopers, on-set romances, and what Michael Landon was really like.

Gilbert starred as Laura Ingalls on the hit TV show and later appeared in Lifetime movies, served as president of the Screen Actors Guild, and wrote "Prairie Tale: A Memoir." Most recently, she was a contestant on ABC's "Dancing with the Stars." Gilbert is married to fellow actor Timothy Busfield.
