Big Timber Road will be closed through at least Friday to accommodate repair work on the railroad track spur at 1600 Big Timber Road.
The roadwork, from Todd Farm Drive to McLean Boulevard, started Monday. The road closure could extend beyond the expected five-day construction period in the case of inclement weather.
Drivers traveling westbound on Big Timber Road will be detoured north on McLean Boulevard, then west onto Todd Farm Drive. Eastbound traffic will be detoured to Todd Farm Drive, then south onto McLean Boulevard. To help alleviate congestion, local traffic is encouraged to use alternate routes at Wing Street, Royal Boulevard, Davis Road and Fox Lane to access Route 31 and Randall Road during the construction period.
Businesses and business entrances on Big Timber Road will be accessible during the closure.
The road closure will not affect Metra service or access to the parking lot at the Big Timber station.
