Gurnee police have launched a special enforcement campaign focusing on vehicle occupant protection and impaired driving that'll run through Sept. 1. In addition to the enforcement patrols, a roadside safety checkpoint is scheduled during the late night hours of Aug. 30 and early Aug. 31. Police said a disproportionate number of traffic deaths occur late at night and involve an impaired driver and/or unbuckled motorist.
