Carole King musical 'Beautiful' heading to Chicago

The Tony-Award winning musical "Beautiful," about the life of singer/songwriter Carole King, will make its Chicago debut late next year.

"Beautiful" will play a 12-week engagement at Chicago's Oriental Theatre from Dec. 1, 2015, to Feb. 21, 2016.

While the Broadway hit stars Jessie Mueller, an Evanston native who won a Tony for playing King, casting for the Chicago production has not yet been announced.

The musical opened on Broadway in January. It features a book by Douglas McGrath, direction by Marc Bruni and choreography by Josh Prince. The songs were written Gerry Goffin and Carole King, and Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil.

"Beautiful" will be part of the Broadway in Chicago subscription series. Current subscribers can renew now; the series is open to new subscribers Sept. 7. Individual tickets will go on sale at a later date.
