Free health screenings at Palatine fair

Palatine Township will be holding a Health and Happiness Fair from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 19, at the Palatine Township offices at 721 S. Quentin Road, Palatine, to provide the families of Palatine Township with a variety of free screenings and answers to health-related questions.

"The health and wellness of our community is very important to the township," said Sharon Langlotz-Johnson, township supervisor. "This event will provide our community with a wide variety of screenings for hearing loss, Osteoporosis as well as blood pressure and blood sugar. You'll also be able to get your dental and foot care questions answered plus have some fun playing the Palatine Park District Wheel of Fortune."

Catholic Charities will be proving a caregiver stress test, Northwest Community Hospital will have physical therapy screenings and the Palatine Vision Center will help with eye glass adjustments. Medicare questions will be answered by the Palatine Township Senior Citizen Center, representatives from Peter Roskam's office will be available to answer any questions on dealing with federal agencies and Comfort Keepers will discuss in-home care. Individual's questions on insurance and applications for assistance with insurance will be available through Access to Care.

Free prescription discount cards and photos are available for attendees and the Palatine Police will inform seniors on common frauds. The Palatine Lions Club will be sponsoring macular degeneration and hearing screenings through the Lions of Illinois Foundation, spinal SEMP tests will be administered and, by calling (847) 884-0030, appointments can be arranged for testing amplified phones. Information will also be available on discounted bus rides for the elderly and disabled. Refreshments and free chair massages will also be available.
