Hunter Kanya is Round Lake Area Exchange Club's August Hometown Hero

The Round Lake Area Exchange Club's Hometown Hero for August is U.S. Marine Lance Cpl. Hunter Kanya of Antioch.

Kanya was registered for this honor by his father, Craig Sr., also of Antioch. Hunter is the second member of the Kanya family to be honored as a Hometown Hero. Older brother Craig Jr. was the September 2011 recipient.

Hunter Kanya is a 2013 graduate from Antioch High School. He completed boot camp in June, 2013 with platoon high shooter score, Honorman and Series Honorman. Kanya is stationed in Kenoha Bay, Hawaii, and on his first deployment. His family is hoping for a fall visit from him.

With the support of this month's sponsor, Kim and Jeanne Kearby, Kanya's "Hanging with the Heroes" care package will be filled with candy, beef jerky, snacks, treats, a personalized "Hanging with the Heroes" T-shirt donated by Artrageous of Hainesville, letters from Round Lake Area Unit District 116 students, and a specially made rosary for the military from Legion of Mary from St. Joseph's in Round Lake.

The Round Lake Area Exchange Club will present a plaque to his family Wednesday, Aug. 27, at 7:30 a.m. at Panera Bread in Round Lake Beach.
