Rauner in Montana for vacation, fundraiser

Republican Bruce Rauner has traveled to his family's ranch in Montana to vacation and raise money for his Illinois governor campaign.

The fundraiser is scheduled for Tuesday at Rauner's 6,000-square-foot home near Yellowstone National Park. Tickets range from $500 to $5,000 per person.

Democratic Gov. Pat Quinn's campaign criticized Rauner for taking the trip. They say the multimillionaire venture capitalist is trying to avoid questions about investments he put in the Cayman Islands, a territory considered a tax haven.

Rauner discussed the issue Sunday. He told reporters the business practice didn't impact his personal tax rate and that he disclosed the necessary information to the U.S. government.

Campaign spokesman Mike Schrimpf says the Rauner family typically vacations in Montana in August.

Rauner left Illinois Monday and returns Thursday.
