Shawano County deputies looking for man who took semi

SHAWANO, Wis. - Shawano (SHAW'-noh) County sheriff's deputies are looking for a suspect accused of stealing a semi and hitting a squad car during a pursuit.

Deputies, who believed the semi was stolen, tried to pull it over early Sunday evening. The driver fled and twice backed the semi into one of the pursuing squads. Officials say the suspect fled on foot after crashing the semi into a tree.

The State Patrol helped search for the man by air. Personnel from area police departments and the Waupaca County Sheriff's Department joined the search on the ground.

Shawano County sheriff's officials said Monday the 26-year-old suspect is still at large. The man is also a suspect in a series of vehicle thefts and disturbances since Friday in Gresham, Tilleda and Leopolis.
