2 injured, DUI charged, in Hampshire-area motorcycle crash

A Elgin man has been charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after a two-motorcycle crash early Friday in Hampshire Township.

Benjamin Fletcher, 26, of the 43W0-99 block of Carletta Lane, was also charged with operating an uninsured motor vehicle, according to a news release from the Kane County sheriff's office.

Fletcher and John Beach, 22, of the 13N100 block of Engel Road in Sycamore, were both riding 2006 Suzukis west on Allen Road east of Walker Road. They were taken to Presence St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin, then flown to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge with life-threatening injuries.

The crash happened at 1:50 a.m. Deputies don't know what caused the crash.

Neither man was wearing a helmet. They were the only riders on the motorcycles.
