Schaumburg looking for Miss Septemberfest 2014

All the musical acts, carnival rides and food vendors are booked, but Schaumburg's annual celebration of summer's final days still needs its Miss Septemberfest to represent the three-day event.

Applications are available online at septemberfest.org and due to Schaumburg's Prairie Center for the Arts by next Friday, Aug. 8.

Miss Septemberfest leads a court of four runners-up, but the scholarship pageant is running a little late with too few applications so far, Miss Septemberfest Chairperson Cara Mohr said.

"People aren't ready to think about summer being over yet," she said.

And indeed, Labor Day weekend is the earliest it can possibly be this year, with the holiday itself falling on Sept. 1.

Nevertheless, by the start of August last year, about 10 to 12 applications had already been submitted. As of Thursday, only four had been received.

Applicants should be girls between the ages of 16 and 19, citizens of the United States and residents of Schaumburg, never married, knowledgeable about Schaumburg, and willing to participate in Septemberfest activities as well as various other events throughout the following year.

The winner of the Miss Septemberfest pageant will receive separate scholarships from the Rotary Club of Schaumburg-Hoffman Estates and the Sons and Daughters of Italy in America.

All applicants must be available for interviews beginning at 8:30 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 17. Five finalists will be announced that day.

If selected as one of the court members, finalists must be available to participate in Septemberfest activities from the afternoon of Friday, Aug. 29 - when Miss Septemberfest will be named - through the evening of Monday, Sept. 1.
