Kaneland begins planning to replace superintendent

The Kaneland school board will meet Monday to officially accept the resignation of Superintendent Jeff Schuler.

It will also discuss personnel during a closed-door portion of the meeting. The meeting is at 6 p.m. at Kaneland Harter Middle School, 1501 Esker Drive, Sugar Grove.

Schuler is becoming the superintendent of Wheaton Warrenville District 200. He was hired Wednesday.

His last day with Kaneland is Aug. 29. He starts with District 200 Sept. 2.

Schuler has worked for the Kaneland district since July 2006, when he was hired as assistant superintendent for human resources. He was groomed for several years to replace former superintendent Charles McCormick, who retired in 2010.

According to a news release from Kaneland, Schuler told the school board several weeks ago he was a finalist for the District 200 job, and if offered, he would take it.

"The Kaneland community is an incredibly supportive community that values their public schools," Schuler said in the release. "I can't say enough about our administrative team, teachers and students. They are incredibly talented. I absolutely loved my time in Kaneland and will always value the relationships I have developed through my time in District 302."

Board President Cheryl Krauspe said, in the release, the board will take its time replacing Schuler, that it is likely several meetings will be scheduled soon to address the topic, and that there will be "many opportunities for community input."

Existing staff will perform his duties in the meantime.
