New Templeton Reserve subdivision planned in Fullersburg Woods

Fullersburg Woods offers gracious living in beautiful older homes and exquisite estate homes to be built in Templeton Reserve, a new subdivision primarily in Oak Brook where lots range from $2.3 to $3.9 million.

"Templeton Reserve is the main new attraction with 66 acres platted for 20 picturesque homesites set amid mature trees, wetlands, ponds and Bronswood Creek," said Elaine Zannis, real estate broker with @Properties in Oak Brook.

The beautiful wooded setting, the community's highly rated schools and one of the lowest municipal real estate tax rates in the country attract homebuyers to Fullersburg Woods, Zannis said.

The Fullersburg Woods area sits south of 31st Street, north of Ogden Avenue and between Route 83 and York Road, with part of it extending into Hinsdale.

In the 1970s, MaryAnn Karris lived in a wonderful home in York Woods, yet always dreamed of living in Fullersburg Woods.

Then in the early 1980s, she and her husband purchased property with an old house on it in Fullersburg Woods, and they were going to eventually build their home on the property. As time passed, they sold it to an acquaintance who built a lovely house on the land.

In 2003, the Karrises were at an event on the street and saw the home was for sale. Intrigued again, they purchased the property and subsequently added the adjacent land, creating an exceptional landscape of five acres.

"Views out of every window are gorgeous, breathtaking scenes to behold," Karris said. "We added a waterfall connected to the pond, and, as time passed, we added beautiful artwork that pleased us."

Karris said she frequently sees riders on horseback in the heavily wooded area.

"Oak Brook Stables is located on the other side of the street, and a common sight is riders heading down the street to Fullersburg Woods (Forest Preserve). Living here is lovely, and blessings abound."

The Fullersburg Woods Forest Preserve surrounds Salt Creek where people can fish, ride a canoe and ride bikes or horses on the beautiful trails. The preserve offers a lot of activities for families.

Oak Brook offers residents recreational facilities that are unusual for a community of this size. An example is the professional-grade soccer fields that host championship tournaments and attract people from everywhere, Zannis said.

The Oak Brook Bath and Tennis Club is a beautiful, village-owned facility on 20 secluded woodland acres and the centerpiece of the Oak Brook Sports Core. It offers residents access to world-class tennis, swimming and golf amenities.

Also, the Sports Core features beautifully manicured sports fields and the acclaimed Oak Brook Polo Grounds, where world class polo teams have played matches every summer since 1922.

Historical attractions include the Ben Fuller House and the Graue Mill and Museum, originally part of the underground railroad and the oldest functioning waterwheel grist mill in Illinois.

Fullersburg Woods Nature Education Center and the Graue Mill are the crown jewels of the DuPage County Forest Preserve District.

Oak Brook is home to many Fortune 500 companies, including McDonald's, Ace Hardware and Newell Rubbermaid, as well as the famed Oakbrook Center, an outdoor mall that opened to great fanfare in 1962.

Oak Brook offers a convenient location with easy access to O'Hare International and Midway airports, as well as several area expressways.
