Sugar Grove United Methodist Church welcomes new pastor

Meet the new pastor of Sugar Grove United Methodist Church. The Rev CheonEui Oh was born and raised in a pastor's family. His father is the pastor in a Methodist Church at Uljin in South Korea and his brother is also a Methodist pastor in Seoul, Korea.

CheonEui was called by God to ordained ministry in 2000. He graduated from Methodist Theological Seminary in Seoul, Korea in 2004 and came to the U. S. in 2005 to study at Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary in Evanston from which he graduated in 2009. After graduation, he became a provisional pastor in the Northern Illinois Conference and became an ordained elder in 2011.

Since 2009, he has served two churches - Orangeville United Methodist Church and Afolkey-Bethel United Methodist Church in the Rockford District. He is passionate about preaching. Based on Hebrew 4:12, "The word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing until it divides soul from spirit, joints from marrow; it is able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart," his theology of preaching is to transform the written word into the living word. Also he is passionate about missions. In Orangeville, he started the church's "Local Mission Project," which helped the local community by painting the school, and community shelter, and helping to build a community playground. He is passionate about Sunday school and youth. As the seed of the church, children and youth have to be raised in a faith community, fed by God's word and loved by other more mature Christians. During his ministry, the Sunday school has grown significantly.
