Foundation's golf outing to benefit Cosley Zoo

Bobcats and bogeys may not seem to have anything in common, but they come together once a year in Wheaton to celebrate and support the Cosley Foundation's Mike Williams Cosley Classic Golf Outing.

Now in its 31st year, the event takes place Aug. 4 at Arrowhead Golf Club, 26W151 Butterfield Road, Wheaton.

One of the unique aspects of the Wheaton Park District is the partnership between its zoo and golf club, a rare combination that sets it apart from other districts.

"We're so glad to be part of this event that raises funds for the ongoing work at Cosley Zoo," said Bruce Stoller, director of golf at Arrowhead Golf Club. "There's a great synergy between facilities at the Wheaton Park District and we enjoy showcasing that partnership through this event."

The Mike Williams Cosley Classic kicks off with lunch at 11 a.m. Teams then tee off for 18 holes of golf on Arrowhead's manicured course.

At 5:30 p.m., participants enjoy hors d'oeuvres, a steak dinner, raffle, awards and an auction to benefit the Cosley Foundation. Prizes will be awarded for the best-dressed team, craziest pants or attire, and the best animal attire.

In the past few years, the Cosley Zoo Foundation has used funds from events like the Cosley Classic golf outing to expand animal collection and exhibits at Cosley Zoo. In 2012, the zoo opened a bobcat exhibit, a major project that displayed these elusive and mysterious creatures.

Individual golf registration is $150, which includes 18 holes, golf cart, lunch, dinner, refreshments on the course, and golfer gift. Foursome golfer registration is $600, which includes all of the same, plus string to improve your foursome's game. Sponsorship opportunities are available and begin at $225. Individual steak dinner tickets are available for $50.
