Rosemont man sentenced for 1997 sexual abuse

A Rosemont man wanted for sexually assaulting a 7-year-old girl in 1997 pleaded guilty and was sentenced to three years in prison, court records show.

In exchange for his guilty plea to aggravated criminal sexual abuse, Juan Gomez, 44, of the 10000 block of Touhy Avenue, was sentenced to prison last week and ordered to register as a sex offender upon his release.

Aurora police arrested Gomez in August 2013 for possessing a fraudulent identification card. They learned about the warrant for his arrest, issued in March of 1997, and alerted Rosemont authorities.

Gomez received credit for 33 days in custody. He must complete at least 50 percent of his sentence before he is eligible for parole.
