SIU to hold special election for student rep

CARBONDALE - Southern Illinois University plans to hold a special election this fall because of an error which officials say invalidated its Board of Trustees student representative election.

The Southern Illinoisan reports that SIU President Randy Dunn says there was confusion about whether an eligibility check was completed for all the candidates vying for the post.

Senior Adrian Miller won the spring election collecting 60 percent of the vote.

But Miller says he's happy to run in the special election and doesn't want a cloud to hang over the vote.

A date for the special election has not yet been set.
