Boomers take 11-10 victory

The host Schaumburg Boomers secured a wild 11-10 victory over the Traverse City Beach Bums in the opener of a series on Thursday night.

The contest featured a Boomers Stadium record six homers along with three lead changes including two in the eighth inning. Traverse City scored four times in the top of the third to open a 4-0 lead against starter Cal Bowling, who worked four innings. Alexi Colon homered in the bottom of the inning. Traverse City extended the lead to 5-1 before the Boomers put together a memorable sixth, scoring eight times. Jordan Dean drilled a grand slam in the inning to hand the Boomers a 9-5 lead.

Traverse City plated five runs in the top of the eighth, recording a go ahead two-run double with two outs in the frame. The Boomers were able to claim the victory with a pair of runs in the bottom of the frame. Ty Nelson entered the game in the seventh as a pinch runner but delivered the game winning hit after working the count full, notching a two-run bases loaded single up the middle. Dexter Price collected the win in relief. Schaumburg posted 13 hits in the contest. Colon and Justin Vasquez tallied three each. Dean scored three times.

The Boomers (32-26) own a 21-7 record at home and will continue the six game homestand with the middle game against Traverse City on Friday night. LHP Danny Jimenez (4-3, 3.69) takes the ball for the Boomers while the Beach Bums send LHP Rusty Shellhorn (4-1, 3.28) .
