Vernon Hills hosts National Night Out

The Vernon Hills Police Department will host a variety of free family activities for National Night Out from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 5, at Hartmann Park, 292 Oakwood Road.

Activities include an inflatable playground, sand volleyball games against the police, a live DJ, face painting, games and a barbecue.

The celebration coincides with the 31st annual National Night Out crime and drug prevention event. National Night Out is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness; generate support for and participation in, local anti-crime efforts; strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and send a message to criminals, letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
