Genesee concert will be tribute to late Johnny Winter

Next month's Rock N' Blues Fest concert at the Genesee Theatre has been renamed and reconfigured as "A Tribute to Johnny Winter" to serve as a musical memorial to the late American guitarist.

Winter died July 17 at the age of 70 in Zurich, Switzerland. He was slated to appear alongside his brother, Edgar Winter, at the Genesee in Waukegan at 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 10.

"My wife, Monique, and I are shocked at the suddenness of Johnny's passing, especially since I was so looking forward with such joy and anticipation to seeing him again and playing together," said Edgar Winter in a prepared statement. "I will do my best to carry on in honor of his memory and the Winter name."

The tribute concert Aug. 10 will feature previously announced artists like Edgar Winter, Vanilla Fudge, Peter Rivera (formerly of Rare Earth) and Savoy Brown's Kim Simmonds performing some of their greatest hits plus a selection of Johnny Winter songs.
