Become the most valuable babysitter in just a few hours!

The Schaumburg Park District will hold an American Red Cross Babysitting class 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Aug. 13 at the Community Recreation Center, 505 N. Springinsguth Road. This training course is designed to provide individuals with the information and skills necessary to provide safe and responsible care for children.

Class teaches participants to respond to emergencies and illnesses with first aid, rescue breathing, making decisions under pressure, communicating with parents to learn household rules and manage young children.

Participants should bring a sack lunch, snack and a doll you can diaper. Certifications are issued through American Red Cross and will be mailed to your home in four to six weeks.

"This is a great opportunity for babysitters to really prove to future employers that they know what they are doing," said Kristy McCann manager of the Community Recreation Center. "The certification really gives parents peace of mind when searching for a new babysitter, especially if it's with their first child".

This class is for ages 11 to 15 years old. Cost is $77 for residents and $97 for non- residents.
