2 Illinois gang members plead guilty to conspiracy

Associated Press

PEORIA - Two Illinois gang members have pleaded guilty to conspiring to distribute drugs.

The (Peoria) Journal-Star reports 26-year-old Aeiral Yarbrough and 24-year-old Deona White pleaded guilty in federal court Tuesday. They face up to 20 years in federal prison for conspiring to distribute heroin, cocaine and marijuana.

They were charged as part of a crackdown by prosecutors on the Zone 4 street gang in October. Fourteen men were indicted on various conspiracy charges and 10 await trial. Two other men pleaded guilty to similar conspiracy charges last month.

The crackdown was part of the city's Don't Shoot anti-gang initiative. Peoria officials have said the city has more than 10 active street gangs and more than 400 known gang members.
