Burglars in Des Plaines targeting work vans

Burglars in Des Plaines have targeted work vans, stealing thousands of dollars in tools in recent weeks. Among the recent reports are these:

• Burglars stole sanders, saws, drills, nailers, compressor, and toolbox with hammers, knives, and Dremel tools between 8:30 p.m. July 7 and 6:15 a.m. July 8 out of an unlocked Chevrolet cargo van in a driveway on the 1300 block of East Howard Avenue. Value was estimated at $11,670.

• Burglars broke into a van between 8:30 p.m. June 27 and 7:30 a.m. June 28 on the 100 block of West Dover Lane and stole a 2.5-ton jack, battery charger, scanner, drills, and two buckets containing various hand tools. Loss was estimated at $4,000.

• Burglars broke into a work van between 2:44 and 3 a.m. July 14 in a lot on the 1500 block of East Oakton Street and stole spray guns, primer guns, heat guns paint guns, buffers and sanders. Value was estimated at $4,062.

• Burglars broke into a vehicle between 5 p.m. July 10 and 6:30 a.m. July 11 in a lot on the 800 block of South Lee Street and stole saws, drills, impact guns, hammers and compressor. Value was estimated at $2,900.

• Burglars broke into a vehicle between July 10 and 14 in a lot on the 900 block of South Beau Drive and stole saws, light, drill, and a bag containing screwdrivers, snips, field meter, specialized meter and other HVAC tools. Value was estimated at $1,630.

• Burglars broke into a Chevrolet van between 8 p.m. July 12 and 9:30 p.m. July 13 in a lot on the 700 block of West Dempster Street and stole a compressor, table saw, framing gun, siding gun and insulation spray gun. Value was estimated at $1,388.

• Burglars stole a power screwdriver out of an unlocked Ford van, a power hammer drill out of a locked Chevrolet van, broke a door handle on a Chevrolet van, and entered another Chevrolet van without taking anything between midnight and 8 a.m. July 13 in a lot on the 600 block of West Murray Lane. Value was estimated at $700.
