Springfield parks consider fixing wind turbine

The Springfield Park District is taking steps to fix a dysfunctional wind turbine in Southwind Park.

The district director tells the State Journal-Register the district has asked companies to submit proposals for repairing and upgrading the issue-prone turbine that is currently not working.

Funds to pay for the turbine's installation in April 2011 included about $100,000 from the park district and a $50,000 grant. The director says the company that produced the turbine is no longer in business.

He says the district won't know how much the fixes will cost until it finishes collecting companies' proposals at the beginning of August.
