It's move-in day at the Lake County Fair

It was move-in day for vendors, livestock contestants and others Tuesday as the final preparations took place for Wednesday's launch of the 86th annual Lake County Fair.

The fair kicks off at 9 a.m. with 4-H dairy cattle and swine judging, followed by a day of food, carnival rides, live music and fun activities for kids. From 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. fairgoers can have their photo taken with an animal as a part of a livestock fundraiser.

New to the fair this year is the WI-FMX Freestyle Motocross and Division BMX Stunt Team, which begins at 7 p.m. in the Grandstand.

"There's a lot of new things that we're offering, " said Sheri Vyfvinkel, business manager for the fair. "There's a lot to be excited about."

Other new events include a fireworks show Thursday night, lawn mower racing, a craft beer festival and the return of the rodeo.

The theme of this year's fair is "All American Fair." The festivities run from Wednesday to Sunday, July 27 at the fairgrounds, 1060 East Peterson Road, Grayslake.

More than 100 vendors will be exhibiting in the exposition hall, as well as numerous rides, shows and livestock contests throughout the event.

Grandstand events include the rodeo Thursday and Friday nights, professional lawn mower racing at 1 and 7 p.m. on Saturday, and a demolition derby at noon on Sunday.
