Mt. Prospect Downtown Block Party returns this weekend
The 15th annual Mount Prospect Downtown Block Party will be held on Friday, July 25, and Saturday, July 26.
There will be a variety of bands to hear, food and beverages to enjoy, and memories for family and friends to create. Admission is free.
The block party will once again be held in the heart of downtown at the intersection of Emerson Street and Busse Avenue, one block from the Metra Mount Prospect train station.
"Some residents bring in friends and family from out-of-state for the weekend festivities," said Mayor Arlene A. Juracek. "It's always a nice way to enjoy the summertime in downtown Mount Prospect."
Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Dawn Fletcher Collins said, "I am always so happy to see the people of Mount Prospect enjoying hometown events."
Festival hours are 4 to 11 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday.
From noon to 6 p.m. Saturday, free kids' activities include a climbing wall, pony rides, slide, mini Ferris wheel, bounce houses, face painting and stilt walkers.
The Impulse Dance Ensemble will perform at 111 a.m. Saturday and Ballet Expressions featuring "Mary Poppins Ballet" will perform at 11:30 a.m. Saturday.
Free parking is at the east Metra commuter lot (Northwest Highway), village hall parking deck (50 S. Emerson St.), and Maple Street parking lot (Prospect Avenue & Maple Street).
Participating food and beverage vendors include Mia's Cantina, Capannari Ice Cream, Olympus Gyros, Heat Pizza, BlackFinn American Grille, Mr. Beef & Pizza, Completely Nuts, Bar Louie (beverages), Mount Prospect Junior Women's Club (beverages) and Mount Prospect Chamber of Commerce (beverages).
