McHenry County deputies shoot woman during standoff

McHenry County sheriff's deputies shot and wounded a woman Sunday near Wonder Lake, the sheriff's office announced Monday.

Officers were responding to a call regarding a suicidal subject when they shot Elizabeth N. Kloss, who pointed a .223-caliber rifle it at deputies, according to a news release.

Kloss, 53, made several suicidal statements, and she could be seen carrying a handgun inside a house before leaving the house with the rifle, the news release said.

Officers shot Kloss one time in the neck, authorities.

Kloss was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center and remains in the intensive care unit.

The Illinois State Police are investigating the shooting, and the deputies involved have been placed on paid leave.
