Mount Prospect man with loaded gun arrested in Evanston
A Mount Prospect man is facing charges after being arrested in Evanston with a loaded handgun on Friday night.
Jamal M. Dumas, 18, of the 1600 block of Cottonwood Drive in Mount Prospect, was already on parole for previously possessing a firearm as a felon when Evanston police approached him and a group of people near the Fleetwood-Jourdain Community Center in Evanston at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, according to a news release.
Police said the group was associated with gang activity and officers could smell cannabis when they approached.
Dumas was arrested by Evanston police with a loaded .22-caliber semiautomatic handgun that had an obliterated serial number, police said.
He was charged with unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, possession of a firearm with a defaced serial number, unlawful use of a weapon, and possession of a firearm without a valid FOID card.
Dumas is expected to appear in the Skokie branch of Cook County court at 9 a.m. on July 29.
