Lugnuts hand Cougars rare consecutive loss

LANSING, Mich. - For the first time in the second half of the season, the first-place Kane County Cougars dropped their second game in a row, falling 8-4 to the Lansing Lugnuts in Midwest League action at Cooley Law School Stadium on Wednesday.

Cougars starter and losing pitcher Juan Paniagua (6-4) gave up 2 runs in the first inning and 3 runs in the fifth. Corbin Hoffner allowed 3 more in the sixth as the Lugnuts finished with 15 hits.

The Cougars (17-8, 62-33) struggled against Lugnuts starter Shane Dawson (3-5), who worked 6 shutout innings and allowed 1 run.

Shawon Dunston Jr. had an RBI groundout, but he struck out to end the eighth with two runners on base.

The series continues today at 6:05 p.m. when the Cougars send Duane Underwood (4-2, 2.59 ERA) against Brent Powers (2-3, 6.46).
