Elgin man identified as pedestrian killed in crash near Hoffman Estates
Authorities Tuesday identified Gabriel Gutierrez-Gomez of Elgin as the pedestrian struck and killed by a vehicle early Monday morning near Hoffman Estates.
Gutierrez-Gomez, 27, of 100 block of Hilton Place, was walking along Golf Road between Rohrssen Road and Route 59 at 5 a.m. when he was struck by a westbound Nissan Versa, Cook County Sheriff's police said.
Authorities said the car's 56-year-old driver stopped to investigate, discovered the body of Gutierrez-Gomez in the roadway and called 911, said sheriff's department spokeswoman Sophia Ansari. The sheriff's department and Bartlett Fire Department responded.
Ansari said Gutierrez-Gomez was wearing dark clothing, making it difficult for the driver to see him. That portion of Golf Road also would have been dark at that time of day, she said.
As of Tuesday morning, the crash remains under investigation and authorities were still working to determine why Gutierrez-Gomez was walking along the roadway at that time. Charges are unlikely.
