1.1 million attend Taste of Chicago, down from last year

Associated Press

Stormy weather meant 400,000 fewer people attended the Taste of Chicago this year.

Mayor Rahm Emanuel's office says about 1.1 million people attended the annual food and music festival this year in Grant Park. The Chicago Sun-Times reports that's down 400,000 from last year's 1.5 million attendance. Authorities closed the festival on Saturday due to stormy weather, saying it was a safety decision.

This year's figure is about a third of the number of people who attended the Taste of Chicago in 2006 and 2007. Those years attendance was 3.6 million.
