Construction closes part of Chicago River bridge

CHICAGO - The Chicago River bridge at State Street will be closed for a week starting as construction continues for the Chicago Riverwalk.

Chicago Department of Transportation officials say the State Street bridge will be closed to all traffic beginning at 6 a.m. Monday through 6 a.m. July 21.

All northbound vehicles will be detoured west to LaSalle Street, and back east to State Street via Illinois Street. Southbound vehicles will detour west to Clark Street via Grand Avenue, and back to State via Wacker Drive.

The Chicago Riverwalk expansion project is creating a new continuous pedestrian path along the south bank of the Chicago River.
