Windmill Whirl 5K brings runners to Batavia fest
The threating weather couldn't keep the avid runners from their date with the Windmill Whirl 5K Race Friday night in Batavia.
With the sound of music and carnival rides filling the air, about 150 people took to the Fox River Trail for one of the few nighttime races in the area.
"It's a nice race, and it's put on well," said Alex Diverde, 20, of Batavia, who finished first.
Diverde, a runner at Bradley University in Peoria, said that he enjoys regularly running on the Fox River Trail.
The Batavia Windmill City Festival runs from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday along the Batavia Riverwalk, on Houston Street at Island Avenue. Visit windmillcityfest.org.
