Glen Crest asks community to take Pillowcase Challenge

Glen Crest Middle School staff members are asking community families to take The Pillowcase Challenge by making pillowcases for chemotherapy patients at the Central DuPage Hospital Cancer Center and the Elmhurst Memorial Cancer Center. They hope to collect 200 pillowcases for 2014.

Interested participants should visit brunswickquilters.com, then click "Patterns" and "Hot Dog Pillow Case." Choose a fabric and start sewing.

Home arts teacher Kerry Waters used the pattern found at the site to get her students involved. Instructional aide Kathy Otey brought the idea to the teacher for her students and they completed 20 pillow cases. All three grades at the middle school worked on them.

Completed projects may be brought to the DuPage County Fairgrounds between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. at 2015 Manchester Road, Wheaton. Call (630) 668-6636 before dropping off pillowcases. Cindy Naberhaus, fair board member, is coordinating the pillow cases for the fair office. A 4-H group also is making pillowcases during July as their project.

Pillowcases also may be brought to the fair during its run, Wednesday to Sunday, July 23 to 27. Those who bring pillowcases can receive free fair admission with a paid adult admission.
