Summer Read Continues at Lisle Library Through August 1

School may be out for summer, but for the 1,364 people signed up for Lisle Library's Summer Read program, there is still plenty of reading happening in Lisle. Since June 7, adults and teens participating in the program have logged 1,960 books; and the kids participating have logged more than 147,500 minutes.

"I look forward to Summer Read all year long," said Adult Summer Read participant Stephanie Kandlik. "I really like rating books and recommending them to others - or warning them away!"

Kandlik is one of the many patrons that take advantage of the option to submit an online review of each book read while participating in the program. Patrons who choose to enter the ISBN numbers of the books they read can also view suggestions of similar titles and authors, a way to find additional titles a patron might enjoy reading. Kandlik also appreciates getting rewarded for simply doing something she enjoys doing - reading.

"Getting a prize after three books is such a realistic goal for any reader in the course of two months," said Kandlik. "I like this attainable goal, and I like that everyone gets a prize for their first three books - regardless of whether they win one at the sign-up party or not."

Lisle Library's Summer Read program continues until August 1, and is divided into three age groups so that readers of all ages can participate in a program tailored for them. Adults and teens who log a minimum of three books/audiobooks are eligible for prizes, and those that read more than three books increase their chances of winning a grand prize. The kids program allows our younger readers to log minutes and has incentives for those who meet weekly goals as well as a book for readers who read 1000 minutes by August 1.
