Family escapes house fire in East Dundee

A fire of undetermined origin early Monday resulted in extensive damage to a home in East Dundee.

Firefighters called about 1:28 a.m. to 6 Summit St., saw flames showing from the rear of the two-story single family home. Four occupants were able to leave the home before firefighters arrived and were not injured, according to a news release from the East Dundee Fire Protection District.

The fire was brought under control in about 30 minutes. West Dundee, Carpentersville, Rutland Dundee, Algonquin and Palatine Rural fire departments assisted. No firefighters were injured.

Heavy damage was reported to the roof over the garage and to the rear of the home but no damage estimate was available. The cause is under investigation.
