Food pantry receives grant

St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry has received a $5,700 grant that was used to purchase a three-door cooler and three two-door freezers, parish officials said in a news release.

The new refrigerated storage will enable the food pantry to increase its offerings to the 160 Lake County families it serves weekly.

The food pantry at St. Francis de Sales Parish in Lake Zurich was one of 20 applicants of the Capacity Building Grant funded primarily by the Kraft Foods Group Foundation. The grants are administered by Northern Illinois Food Bank to assist partner food pantries in 13 counties in northern Illinois. The grants are earmarked for capacity building projects that will allow food pantries to purchase equipment, update technology or use the funds to increase the accessibility to food for families and individuals facing hunger in the community.

The St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry is open Thursdays from 6:15 to 8:15 p.m. Visit www.svdplz.org for more.
