The Mount Prospect Police Department is now accepting applications for the 2014 Citizens Police Academy, which will get under way in September and run to mid-November. The academy gives residents a chance to get a firsthand glimpse at the daily responsibilities of a police officer. Participants will learn about traffic enforcement, crime-scene processing, criminal law and other topics. Participants will also spend a day at the department's pistol range. Applications are available at the village's public safety building, 112 E. Northwest Hwy., and on the village's website, mountprospect.org. Applications must be submitted by Sept. 1. Call Officer Greg Sill at (847) 870-5650 for information.
