Illinois couple accused of robbing credit union

Associated Press

EAST ST. LOUIS - A southwestern Illinois couple recently imprisoned on burglary convictions are accused of robbing a credit union more than a year ago.

A federal grand jury has indicted 45-year-old Steve Dodson and 43-year-old Denise Dodson on charges of bank robbery and conspiracy to commit bank robbery. A judge ordered the Collinsville couple jailed without bond.

The indictments were announced Tuesday, after the couple finished serving their Illinois state prison terms on burglary charges.

Authorities allege a masked Steve Dodson entered the Scott Credit Union in O'Fallon in May 2013, claimed he had a gun and fled with about $100,000. Investigators say his wife was the getaway driver.

The charges are punishable by up to 25 years in prison.

A message seeking comment from the couple's federal public defender wasn't immediately returned.
