Apparent lightning strike damages Lombard house

No injuries were reported Monday night when an apparent lightning strike triggered a house fire that caused roughly $100,000 damage in Lombard.

Authorities said there was heavy damage to both the home on the 1100 block of East Adams Street and nearby trees.

Firefighters were called around 10:35 p.m. and found heavy smoke coming from the rear of the home, where fire was running along the inside walls and first-floor ceiling.

Crews from the Villa Park, Elmhurst and Downers Grove fire departments and Glenside, Carol Stream, Addison and York Center fire protection districts assisted in battling the blaze.
