Gurnee bridge to be named after Medal of Honor recipient

The Grand Avenue bridge over the Tri-State Tollway will be named in honor of Medal of Honor recipient Allen J. Lynch of Gurnee. The Illinois State Toll Highway Authority will unveil signs along I-94 during a ceremony Wednesday, July 2, at 10 a.m. at the tollway's Gurnee maintenance site on northeast side of Grand Avenue. Tollway and Veteran's Affairs officials and local state legislators are expected to attend. Lynch is being recognized for his heroic acts during the Vietnam War. The Medal of Honor is the nation's highest award for valor. Lynch is also being honored for his continuing advocacy on behalf of veterans.
