Montgomery a stop on Norway cathedral choir's first world tour

In its first U.S. tour, the 50-member Bodo Cathedral Choir will perform twice on Sunday, June 29, at St. Olaf Lutheran Church, 1233 Douglas Ave., Montgomery.

The mixed choir will perform at 10:15 a.m. worship and at a 1 p.m. concert. The public is invited. Admission is free.

One of Norway's most ambitious mixed choirs, the group will perform religious and secular Norwegian choir pieces from the last 150 years.

Founded in 1954, Bodø Cathedral Choir is known both for its quality and versatility.

Its repertoire includes both large-scale oratorio performances and commissioned works by contemporary composers and jazz musicians.

The choir's Montgomery appearances are sponsored by Sons of Norway Polar Star Lodge 5-472 which meets at the church.

The choir will open its U.S. tour at Norwegian Lutheran Memorial Church, 2614 N. Kedzie Ave., Chicago, at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, June 27.

After its June 29 Montgomery concerts, the choir will perform at June 30 at First Lutheran Church, Decorah, Iowa; July 2 at Norwegian Lutheran Memorial Church, Minneapolis, Minnesota; and at the Minneapolis' July 4 celebration.
