ROCK ISLAND, Ill. -- Officials from some Illinois high schools plan to propose separate championships for traditional public schools and private schools and others that don't have district boundaries.
Adam Cibulka, principal at Addison Trail High School and president of the West Suburban Conference, tells The Rock Island Argus the conference is working on a proposal to present to the Illinois High School Association. The IHSA oversee prep sports in the state.
IHSA Executive Director Marty Hickman said in an emailed statement that he would not like to see separate championships. Schools around the state would have to approve any change.
Schools without boundaries won 36 percent of all the team titles this year.
Some traditional schools believe a lack of district boundaries provides unfair advantages.
