Daily Herald report

For Muslims around the Chicago area and the world, Ramadan begins at sunup Saturday morning -- the holy month when goodwill, generosity and compassion are emphasized.

During the month-long observance, Muslims fast from sunrise to sunset.

The fasts will end with Eid al-Fitr, the end of Ramadan, which is expected on July 29 in the United States.
