'Odds and Ends' showcases Arlington museum's seldom-seen pieces

The story of the village and its residents' history is often told by items left behind. These objects can be common everyday things like drinking mugs, clothing, or souvenirs. But often times it's the more bizarre items that tell other stories. The ordinary and the unusual come together in this unique exhibition.

From plans that show a Chicago Bears stadium at Arlington Park, to a small sculpture given to the village of Arlington Heights by the People's Republic of China, a potpourri of objects from the Arlington Height's Historical Society's permanent collection are the focus of "Odds and Ends - Seldom Seen Items from the Museum's Collection." Most of these objects have not been on view for many years, while some are being presented to the public for the first time.

"Odd and Ends," partially sponsored by Lucky Junk, can be viewed from 1:30-4:30 p.m. Friday-Sunday, through Sept. 21, in the museum's Heritage Gallery, 112 W. Fremont St., Arlington Heights. The gallery specializes in local history exhibits drawn from the Historical Society's collections and local, national and regional traveling exhibitions that explore the broader context of our history. There is no admission fee for the gallery, but a suggested donation of $2 is recommended.
