Daniels to speak to committee on space flight
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind.- Purdue University President Mitch Daniels and a Cornell University planetary scientist will speak before a U.S. House committee about human space flight.
The former Indiana governor and Jonathan Lunine are scheduled to speak Wednesday before the Committee on Science, Space and Technology. The two co-chaired the National Research Council's Committee on Human Spaceflight and issued a report that examined the goals of the U.S. human space flight program and offered recommendations for a sustainable program moving forward.
The university says Daniels is expected to say he believes a strong case can be made for continuing the nation's program if leaders can reach a consensus on achieving a highly disciplined set of objectives from which the nation would not deviate over time and for which stable funding would be provided.
