Six unique gardens featured in Libertyville walk

Town and Country Garden Club of Libertyville presents "Hidden Gems Garden Walk" on Saturday, June 28, to raise funds to support beautification of public areas.

The event, which runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., will be held rain or shine and features six unique Libertyville gardens. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 day of the walk and are available at the Libertyville farmers market; Libertyville village hall, 118 W. Cook Ave.; and How Impressive! and Eclectic Design Source, both on Milwaukee Avenue in downtown Libertyville.

Homes on the walk vary in size and theme. One home features garden "rooms" such as a woodland, dining, first light morning, and front porch garden room. Another home, a Civil War-era farmhouse, highlights the owners' collection of antique and interesting artifacts. English gardens, vegetable gardens, shade and sun gardens, will all be on display that day and in one garden.

"This garden walk is a wonderful opportunity to gain knowledge, ideas, and get inspired for one's own garden," said Kathy Kinsey of Libertyville, who joined the Town and Country Garden Club after last year's walk.

Proceeds are used to support the beautification with plantings of local Libertyville public areas, such as Cook Mansion and Gardens, David Adler Arts and Music Center, Libertyville Civic Center, Winchester House and the Blue Star Memorial.

Additional proceeds will benefit Habitat for Humanity, Libertyville Food Pantry and other civic projects throughout the year.
