Free water ski show at Diamond Lake

Championship water skiers with on-water pyramids is just one of the many thrilling events at Mundelein Park & Recreation District's annual community picnic Saturday, June 28.

The show is at Diamond Lake Beach, 1016 Diamond Lake Road, Mundelein. Residents of all communities are welcome.

This hometown get-together runs 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., beginning with free admission to Diamond Lake, a summertime retreat with plenty of shoreline for a cool swim or relaxing view. Guests of all ages can enjoy free favorites like kids' crafts, ice cold lemonade, and pedal boats for excursions on the lake. There are shaded areas for picnicking and food available for purchase.

After 5 p.m., when swimming and boating activities close, guests can turn their attention to the lake for the Wonder Lake Water Ski Show Team. A special show featuring tricks, freestyle jumps, fast-paced barefoot skiing and those famous pyramids, will take place.

There are great viewing areas and guests are encouraged to bring a blanket or lawn chair.

Courtesy of Mundelein Park & Recreation District, the goal is to make this a "hometown" summertime favorite. Its appeal was recognized by Illinois Park & Recreation Association, naming it an industry "Outstanding Special Event."

"The picnic is a great way to bring people together, outdoors, for a fun and relaxing day," said Mundelein Park District Executive Director Margaret Resnick. "Diamond Lake Beach is such a beautiful place and we're so glad to share it with the community."

Diamond Lake Beach is on Diamond Lake Road, between Route 60/83 and Route 45/Lake Street. Free parking is available.
