Grammy-nominated bluegrass band to perform at The Holmstad

On Friday, July 11, The Special Consensus, a Grammy-nominated four-person acoustic bluegrass band, will perform at The Holmstad, a faith-based, nonprofit, continuing care retirement community operated by Covenant Retirement Communities, at 7 p.m.

Formed in the Chicago area in 1975, the band will perform a musical tour of the decades featuring traditional bluegrass standards, original compositions by band members and professional songwriters, and songs from other musical genres performed in the bluegrass format.

The Special Consensus has released 16 recordings and appeared on numerous National Public Radio programs and cable television shows, including The Nashville Network and the Grand Ole Opry.

Its 2012 release "Scratch Gravel Road" was nominated for the Best Bluegrass Album Grammy. The band has toured internationally in Canada, Europe, South America, Ireland and the United Kingdom.
