Chicago receives $2.2 million for clean energy initiative
CHICAGO - Chicago is getting about $2.2 million in federal grant money and private matching funds to set up a program to help startups and entrepreneurs gain access to testing and demonstration facilities in Illinois and Michigan.
In a news release, Mayor Rahm Emanuel and U.S. Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz announced that more than $1.5 million of the money will come from private funds to establish the three-year project called the Midwest Innovation Bridge.
Another $745,000 will come from the U.S. Department of Energy for Chicago's Clean Energy Trust and Detroit's NextEnergy.
Emanuel says all the money will help support the growth of more than 100 new clean tech jobs in the city.
